About AI Stewardship

Discover our story, mission, and the principles that guide our work in creating a balanced future for AI and humanity.

Our Story

AI Stewardship was founded by Jane, a visionary grandmother who participated in a pilot program delivered by "MaRS" Discovery District. This transformative experience opened her eyes to the profound impact that artificial intelligence would have on future generations.

As she reflected on her role as a grandmother, Jane realized the importance of ensuring that her grandchildren—and their grandchildren—would inherit a world where AI serves humanity's best interests. This realization sparked the creation of AI Stewardship, a platform dedicated to fostering meaningful dialogue about the future of AI.

We stand at a unique moment in history—the threshold between a world without AI and a future defined by it. How we navigate this transition will shape countless generations to come.

Our Mission and Vision

Mission

To foster thoughtful, inclusive conversations about the impact of artificial intelligence on our lives—uniting diverse perspectives to bridge the gap between technology and humanity.

Vision

A world where artificial intelligence enhances human potential, respects human dignity, and serves the common good across generations.

Values

Inclusivity, Thoughtfulness, Intergenerational Responsibility, Transparency, and Humility guide everything we do at AI Stewardship.

The Four Pillars of AI Stewardship

Our approach is built on four interconnected pillars that guide meaningful engagement with AI's impact on society.

Self-Orientation

Self-orientation begins with understanding your own relationship with technology. It involves reflecting on how AI shapes your daily life, influences your beliefs, and affects your vision of the future.

At AI Stewardship, we encourage participants to examine their assumptions, biases, and hopes regarding artificial intelligence. This introspective process creates a foundation for authentic dialogue with others.

Before we can understand others' perspectives on AI, we must first understand our own.

Exploring Others' Perspectives

The second pillar focuses on actively seeking out and engaging with diverse viewpoints on AI. This includes perspectives from different cultures, generations, professional backgrounds, and lived experiences.

We create spaces where people can share their unique relationships with technology and listen deeply to others. This exchange broadens our collective understanding and reveals the multifaceted nature of AI's impact on society.

The richest insights emerge when we bring together voices that might otherwise never be in conversation.

Illuminating Tensions

Rather than avoiding areas of disagreement, the third pillar actively identifies and explores tensions between different perspectives on AI. These tensions—whether ethical, cultural, technical, or philosophical—are valuable sources of insight.

By examining these points of friction with curiosity rather than judgment, we uncover deeper truths about our collective relationship with technology and reveal opportunities for innovation and reconciliation.

The most productive conversations happen not when we agree, but when we thoughtfully explore why we don't.

Finding Common Ground

The fourth pillar focuses on working together to find solutions that honor both technological advancement and human values. After exploring diverse perspectives and illuminating tensions, we seek pathways forward that integrate multiple viewpoints.

This process isn't about compromise but about synthesis—creating approaches to AI development and governance that are more robust and inclusive because they incorporate a wide range of human experiences and values.

The future of AI must be co-created by the full spectrum of those it will affect.

— AI Stewardship Vision Statement

Collaboration and finding solutions

The question is not whether AI will transform our world, but whether that transformation will be guided by our highest human values.
